In Loving Memory Of

Zayanna (Young) Leahy

October 30, 1930 - September 22, 2024

Zayanna Leahy passed away peacefully just shy of her 94th birthday, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Los Angeles, California, to Roy Arnold Young and Anna Olena Young (Mittan), Zayanna faced

early challenges when her mother passed away when she was just two years old. She and her older

sister, Ida May, were lovingly raised by their father and stepmother, Ella Eliza Rogers.

While Ida May served in the military, Zayanna remained close to home, dedicating herself to caring

for her father & stepmother. There she met the love of her life, John Leahy. The couple wed in Los

Angeles on November 14, 1955, and together they built a family-centered life in Downey, Ca.. Zayanna

was predeceased by her husband, sister Ida May Young, son Scott M. Leahy, and daughter Mary E.

Roughton (Anthony).

She is survived by her children: Rachael L. Dixon (Bill), Kathleen A. Helme (Randy), Jack T. Leahy, Brad C.

Leahy (Carmen), Kay S. Miller (Donald), Susan M. Pruett, Nola M. VanHoomissen, Tracy J. Leahy (Sandy),

and Carol S. LeRoux (David).

After John Leahy’s passing in 1986, Zayanna dedicated her time to nurturing her rapidly growing family.

As her grandchildren grew older and more independent, the once hectic pace of life began to slow

down.

With the newfound calm, she decided it was the perfect moment for a change of scenery. She embarked

on a new chapter, moving to Oregon to be closer to her daughter Mary. In North Portland, she found joy

in volunteering at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital gift shop and cherished her routine of taking the bus

to the grocery store and visiting friends along the way.

Zayanna considered herself incredibly blessed, with 25 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 3 great-

great-grandchildren, and a countless number of others who called her Grandma. She took immense

pride in knowing each family member’s name and birthday, and she was a beloved matriarch who

cherished every moment spent with her family and friends. Her home was filled with treasured

photographs, each a testament to her love and pride.

In her later years, Zayanna moved to Massachusetts, to live with her youngest daughter Carol and her

husband David. This move allowed her to forge new bonds with a fresh set of grandchildren and great-

grandchildren.

Zayanna spent her final years in the loving care of Carol and David, staying connected with her extensive

family and enjoying a well-deserved slower pace of life.

Zayanna will be deeply missed by family and friends from coast to coast. She was a loving, funny, and

spirited woman who lived life to the fullest, always with a touch of orneriness that endeared her to all

who knew her.
